Alyeska Resort

Overview

Playing host to the unisex World Cup giant slalom ski races in 1973, as well as the U.S. Alpine Championships in 1963 and several subsequent years, Alyeska Resort offers an impressively-pedigreed landscape and facilities to winter sports enthusiasts of all experience and skill levels. With six chairlifts, two Magic Carpets, and one high-speed tram, there are plenty of high-tech options to get skiers and snowboarders to the starting points of its seventy-three variable-difficulty runs.

Chugash Powder Guides provide transport to snowcat and helicopter access to backcountry skiing and snowboarding in mountainous, glacial areas. Glacier City Snowmobile Tours are available for riders all ages and skill levels Over 40 Alaskan artists are featured at the Girdwood Center for the Visual Arts, a nonprofit cooperative gallery.

Best time to visit

Though winter is obviously the ideal time for fresh powder and snow sports, the Girdwood valley blooms with thawing nature trails in the summertime.
