Disneyland

Overview

“The Happiest Place on Earth,” which opened in the thick of Southern California’s orange groves in 1955, is arguably the most famous theme park on the planet, with the highest attendance of any park worldwide—650 million guests since opening day and counting. Walt Disney himself personally supervised the design and construction of Disneyland, his personal ode to theme parks and fairs everywhere. Eight themed “lands,” many of them containing rides that are both inspired by classic Disney films, as well as those that have gone on to inspire beloved films of their own, invite visitors from every corner of the globe.

Information

Visitors can enjoy iconic rides that have become a part of worldwide pop-culture, including The Haunted Mansion, Pirates of the Caribbean, The Matterhorn Bobsleds, the Jungle Cruise, and Space Mountain. More recent ride additions like the Indiana Jones™ Adventure, the Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters, and the completely renovated Star Tours — The Adventures Continue are cutting-edge additions to the park's many classics. The Rivers of America can be explored from the comfortable decks of the Mark Twain Riverboat or with a paddle and life-vest in Davy Crockett's Explorer Canoes. Main Street, U.S.A. is an idyllic "small town" boulevard, as well as the central path through the center of the park, taking visitors from the front entrance all the way to Sleeping Beauty Castle, the gateway to Fantasyland. Michael Jackson’s Captain EO interactive 3D movie experience returned in 2010, after a sixteen-year hiatus, as a tribute to the King of Pop’s legacy.

Price range

Park admission is $86 for children aged 3-9, and $92 for guests aged 10 and up. Multi-day passes are also available, with prices ranging from $162 to $265, depending on guest age, for stays of two to five days. Additionally, “Hopper Tickets,” which allow for equal admission to Disneyland Park and Disney’s California Adventure Park, are available, ranging from $131 to $300, based on guest age and length of stay (one to five days). Annual Passports and Premiere Passports are also available for those who wish to visit the park year-round.

Best time to visit

Summer offers longer operating hours (and larger crowds to match), while wintertime surrounds visitors in a nostalgic world of holiday season and tradition. Extravagant decorations, parades featuring Santa Claus and Mickey Mouse in his own Santa garb, and a blanket of rare Southern California “snow” top off the winter festivities..

Near by POI

Disney California Adventure Park is Disneyland’s (relatively) new sibling, full of Southern California-themed rides, and featuring attractions starring newer Disney characters, like those in the Pixar films. The Downtown Disney District is a thoroughfare featuring live music venues, like House of Blues, and plenty of restaurant choices, such as ESPN Zone and Rainforest Café. The City National Grove of Anaheim is a live music venue, roughly two miles from the park, which features international touring performers, musicians, and comedians.
